We at the FairLaw Firm are please to report that on July 12, 2018, after a 2-day federal jury trial before U.S. District Judge Kathleen M. Williams, the jury returned a verdict for our client. After asking for a calculator during their deliberations, the jury returned a verdict for our client by awarding her the $8,732.90 in minimum wages and overtime pay that she earned while working for two restaurants (and their owners) who had no records of the time worked or what they actually paid her. The jury ended up awarding our client more than the amount estimated in the latest Statement of Claim. The case number is 17-CV-21251.
Needless to say, our client was thrilled to have been able to show that these companies could not get away with exploiting her.
We next expect that Judge Williams will double (or liquidate) the jury’s award so that our client will recover twice what she is owed, followed by our applying for a separate award of attorneys’ fees and costs against the Defendants.
